Queen Latifah is defending her fellow diva.

She told FOX411 she can understand how Mariah Carey’s New Year’s Eve fiasco performance happened.

“Yeah it happens, it definitely happens,” she explained. “It may seem very simple but when you have a huge crowd around you, you’re using earbuds to hear, and you really can't hear outside of that. They are kind of like noise cancelling headphones, you know. So when they go off you can hear nothing and everything is moving around you.”

The 46-year-old shared her own on-stage horror story with us.

“I was performing at The Apollo one time and The Apollo is obviously a place where you can get booed off of the stage and the turntables went out… the whole system went out,” she said with a chuckle. “Luckily, MC Hammer had this commercial at the time where he was drinking a Pepsi and it changed his voice, and he started singing this jazz song, and I sang that same song and people died laughing.”

Latifah is currently promoting her latest show, “Star.” At the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour she said the show sends a positive message.

“I think this show is an empowering show for everyone, not just young women… It’s for young men, young women, LGBTQ, you know,” she said. “The most important thing always for me is to love yourself… have God in your life and to love yourself. Don't hate yourself. Don't tear yourself down because people who love themselves tend to work on their self-esteem and try to do the right things and make good decisions, and people who don't feel so good about themselves can often make very bad decisions for their own lives.”

“Star” airs on Wednesday nights on FOX.
