UPDATE: Names released in crash that killed man, woman near Cadott

The names of the couple killed when a vehicle slammed into a culvert and then a concrete wall have been released.

Late Thursday afternoon, the Wisconsin State Patrol identified them as Delores Freund, 80, and Paul Freund, 85, both of McHenry, IL. Troopers said Delores Freund was driving a van north on State Highway 27 near Cadott around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. She went into the southbound lane "for unknown reasons," and continued into a ditch on the west side of the road. The van ended up hitting a culvert and a concrete wall. No other vehicles were involved.

Crews found her unconscious. She died at the scene. Paul Freund was flown to an Eau Claire hospital, where he later died of his injuries. A sergeant with the state patrol told WEAU 13 News the two were husband and wife. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
