Grosse Pointe Summer Camp Offers Lakeside Learning

The Grosse Pointe Academy has announced its schedule for the 2018 Summer Camp on its lakefront campus.

GROSSE POINTE, MI — The Grosse Pointe Academy has announced its schedule for the 2018 Summer Camp. The classes are for kids starting as young as 2 years old and offer educational, imaginative and enriching experiences through academic opportunities like language exploration and traditional summer camp fun in their lakeside setting. Early Montessori camps, arts and crafts, and French language and culture are some of the highlights. Camps vary in duration and price to accommodate different families.

Here's a look at what's being planned:

Montessori Day Camp – June 18 through August 10
This camp is a perfect way to play for a morning or to explore what learning at Montessori could be like. Designed for children ages 2 ½ to 6 years of age, camp will focus on a different theme each week within a Montessori environment. Each day brings a balanced blend of learning and play. Themes will incorporate outdoor adventures, crafts, cooking, games, and water play where children can be creative and curious. Assemblies will enrich the campers’ program and add a fun layer to the camp. Parents can enroll for the summer or just a few weeks and choose from half-day and full-day camps in any combination.
5 Half Days run from 8:45-11:45 a.m. The fee is $150
5 Full Days run from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fee is $250
Sunset Club runs daily from 3-5 p.m. for a fee of $10 per hour

Creative Enrichment Arts & Crafts – June 18-22, June 25-29
Thematic camps designed to enrich a child's sense of imagination through art, storytelling, water play, cooking and more. Designed for Ages 3-8, camps are limited to 20 campers a week.
June 18-22: Castles, Dragons, Knights, Princesses & more
June 25-29: Argh ... Pirate Adventures!
Camp runs daily, Monday through Friday, 8:30–11:30 a.m. Fee for one week is $225 and $450 for two weeks. Fee includes all supplies and snacks.

French Language Journey through the Francophone World – June 18-22
Designed for Ages 7-12, children learn about the nations of the world where French is spoken. Campers explore France, Switzerland, Haiti, Central African Republic and the Seychelles through art, food, movies, sports and more. From painting a French silk scarf and eating Swiss raclette to learning French names of Central African animals and making Haitian jewelry and saffron rice from the Seychelles, children take a cultural journey through French history, geography, cooking and crafts. Camp runs daily, Monday through Friday, June 18–22, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is limited to 12 campers a week. Fee is $230

Journey through France Experience – June 25-29
Students ages 7-12 explore French culture and language on a journey through the regions of France while learning French, history, geography, cooking and crafts. They can enjoy a Parisian croque-monsieur sandwich, a game of pétanque, a tour of the castles of the Loire Valley, plant Provençal lavender and bake a quiche Lorraine. Camp runs daily, Monday through Friday, June 25-29 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is limited to 12 campers per week. Fee is $230.
