A car witnesses saw leaving the scene of Topeka’s latest homicide this past Friday was found abandoned in the Kansas City area, a Topeka police official said Wednesday.

Lt. John Sturgeon said the Dodge Magnum station wagon that officers had been seeking was found unoccupied Wednesday in Kansas City, Mo.

Witnesses to last Friday’s shooting death of Jermel R. Robbins, 26, of Topeka, told investigators the victim was seen talking with a man in the Dodge Magnum before shots were fired in front of a house about 2:45 p.m. at 2129 S.E. Kentucky. Robbins was rushed to a Topeka hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later. He was Topeka’s third homicide victim of the year.

Police had been looking for the car in question since then.

Police have yet to identify the owner of the recovered car or name any persons of interest in the case. Persons with information about the case can call Topeka detectives at (785) 368-9400 or Crime Stoppers at 234-0007.
