RICHARDSON, Texas – After clinching the 2018 American Southwest Conference regular season title, the Concordia Texas baseball team had eight players earn ASC all-conference honors, the league announced Wednesday.

Highlighting the list for the Tornados were Carson Cox, Justin Traxler and Matthew Williams, who all were named first team all-ASC. Cox was also named ASC newcomer of the year while Traxler garnered ASC pitcher of the year honors.

Also picking up all-conference honors were Casen Novak, who was named to the ASC second team, as well as Reed Carlton, Ryan Clouse, Michael Evan and Clarence Guidry III, who all earned ASC honorable mention.

Additionally, the CTX coaching staff comprised of head coach Tommy Boggs, assistant coaches Clint Mokry, Carlos Perez and Jason Winkler and graduate assistant Ty Bratton were honored with ASC coaching staff of the year. On March 24 of this season, Boggs became the all-time wins leader after a 10-7 win over Hardin-Simmons. He now sits at 256 total wins.

Traxler, a senior out of Austin, Texas, earned ASC honors for the fourth time in his career thanks to going 6-0 with a 1.66 ERA this year. In 65.0 innings this season, he struck out 62 batters while also tying the school record for saves in a season with eight. Currently, the Tornados are 18-1 in games Traxler has appeared in this season.

Cox, a junior from Cotulla, Texas, has been stellar at the plate, leading CTX in batting average (.403), RBIs (40), home runs (4), doubles (11), slugging percentage (.565) and hits (62). The highlight of the season for Cox came in the three-game series against East Texas Baptist where he went 10-for-16 with three doubles, three homers and 12 total RBIs.

Williams, a sophomore from Austin, Texas, has been the most consistent starting pitcher for the Tornados this season, racking up a 7-3 record with a 3.10 ERA. He currently leads the ASC in innings pitched with 90.0 as well as in strikeouts with 84. It is the second straight ASC honor for Williams after grabbing honorable mention in 2017.

Novak, a sophomore from Flatonia, Texas, also picked up his second straight honor from the ASC after batting .375 with 21 RBIs and a team-high 45 runs scored this season. He ranks in the top-10 in the conference in stolen bases, hits, runs scored and on base percentage.

Carlton, a junior out of Austin, Texas, has made the most out of his first season with CTX, hitting .340 while starting 40 out of 43 total games at first base. He is second on the team with 33 RBIs and third on the squad with 51 hits, 10 of which have come in his last seven games.

Clouse, a sophomore from Round Rock, Texas, has been a model of consistency behind the plate for the Tornados, appearing in all 43 games with 37 starts while batting .287 this season. He has thrown out 16 baserunners this year which ranks third in the ASC while registering a .993 fielding percentage.

Evan, a senior from Cameron, Texas, earned his fourth ASC honor in as many seasons after batting .292 with four doubles, three homers and 26 RBIs. In left field this season, Evan is one of only seven players in the ASC who have played 75% of their team's games yet to commit an error.

Guidry III, a junior out of Pflugerville, Texas, appeared in 37 of the Tornados' 43 games this season, making 32 starts in center field and hit .287 this season. He is second on the team in doubles with eight as well as steals with nine.

CTX will take on UT Dallas in the ASC Gold Championship Series, which is a three-game set beginning Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Tornado Field. The winner of the series will get an automatic bid to the NCAA D-III West Regional, which will be held in Spokane, Wash.
