Suspect charged in slaying of Northport man during 'illegal transaction'

Deandre Deshawn Eaton

A Tuscaloosa man was arrested overnight in the Wednesday-morning shooting death of a Northport man.

Deandre Deshawn Eaton, 20, is charged with murder, according to the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit. He is charged in the slaying of 29-year-old David Bernard Tucker.

Tucker was found about 1:40 a.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of 14th Avenue in Northport. Police responding to the area on a welfare check found Tucker in front of a home and transported him to DCH Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Capt. Gary Hood on Thursday morning said investigators believe Eaton and Tucker met in the street to conduct an illegal transaction but then began to argue. During the dispute, Eaton pulled a gun and shot Tucker multiple times. Tucker ran a short distance and fell in the front yard of a nearby home.

Eaton is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $150,000 bond.
