Brookdale Community Name Changes Continue in Kansas City, Post-Merger

Months following completion of the merger between Brookdale and Emeritus, the nation’s now-largest senior living provider is continuing to grow its brand presence by changing the names of nine Kansas City-area communities, the company announced this week.

Brookdale Senior Living (NYSE: BKD) will change the name of its Grand Court Kansas City community, along with eight others, to connect it to the larger Brookdale family.

Each of the communities’ new names will include the word “Brookdale” in their titles — a move that is in line with other recent name changes in Chicago and in Houston

Grand Court Kansas City will become Brookdale Wornall Place; Emeritus at Overland Park will become Brookdale College Square; and The Sweet Life at Rosehill will become Brookdale Rosehill, to name a few.

In May, Brookdale announced via its website that it had begun the process of changing dozens of its community names to better reflect its national brand. The latest round of name changes is Brookdale’s first since its merger with Emeritus Senior Living Corp. was completed in late-July. The combined company now operates more than 1,100 communities in 46 states, covering roughly 80% of the U.S. population.

Since the merger’s completion, Brookdale has also closed a $1.2 billion joint venture with HCP, Inc. (NYSE: HCP) to own and operate a portfolio of 14 entry-fee continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs).
