A man was arrested for attempted robbery after an incident in Kanawha City yesterday evening.

Charleston Police say that on Wednesday, May 9th, 2018 at around  5:30 PM, Joann Dillard, 67, reported that as she was getting in her vehicle in the parking lot of Elder Beerman in the Kanawha Mall, a white man ran up to her car, grabbed her, and attempted to forcibly pull her out of the car

She says the man demanded money or her credit card. Dillard was able to scare the suspect off by pressing on her car horn and the man ran away. She did not sustain physical injuries.

Dillard provided officers with a description of the suspect. A man matching the description was detained in an area outside of the Kanawha Mall.

Dillard identified the man as the one who had attempted to rob her.

The man attempted to provide officers with false names, but he was eventually identified as Steven Elliott Knipple, 25, of Falling Waters, WV.

Knipple has been charged with Attempted 1st Degree Robbery and two counts of Obstructing an Officer.
