Scott Malone predicts Premier League success for Chris Wood

Huddersfield Town summer signing Scott Malone played with Leeds United striker Chris Wood at Millwall, and the defender has spoken highly of the Burnley-bound star.

Huddersfield Town defender Scott Malone has suggested to Sky Sports that Leeds United striker Chris Wood will be a success in the Premier League.

Wood is on the books of Championship club Leeds at the moment, but it is looking increasingly likely that he will leave the Whites soon.

According to Sky Sports, the New Zealand international striker is in Manchester for a medical ahead of a move to Premier League club Burnley.

Leeds head coach Thomas Christiansen has also been quoted as saying by Sky Sports that the Clarets’ bid for the 25-year-old has been accepted by the Whites.

It has been reported by Sky Sports that it will cost Burnley a transfer fee of £15 million in order to secure the services of the former Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion striker.

Huddersfield’s Malone, who can play as a left-back or as a left-sided midfielder, has backed Wood to be a success in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old, who joined the Premier League club from Championship outfit Fulham in the summer transfer window, played with Wood at Millwall.

Meanwhile, New Zealand national football team manager Anthony Hudson has praised Wood, who scored 27 goals in the Championship for Leeds last season.

“I remember his power and the size of him,” Malone told Sky Sports about Wood. “On the training pitch, in a five-a-side game, you couldn’t get near him. He was frightening.”

“He’s definitely athletic enough to step up to the Premier League,” added Malone. “His speed, his power, his heading, his presence is there.

“He could handle it in the Premier League, but you can’t give an answer until people move up to that level. I hope he does.”

“Woodsy is a top professional and great to have in the team,” Hudson told Sky Sports. ”He’s incredibly single minded and focused on what he wants.

“I’m not surprised one bit at how well he’s doing right now, it’s certainly not by accident. And he absolutely loves playing for his country. He’ll be back in the Premier League soon.”
