Tim and Wendy Smith

Former Boone pastor, the Rev. Tim Smith, pictured with his wife, Wendy, was elected on May 30 to a six-year term as bishop of the North Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in late May. His installation ceremony will take place in September.

For Tim Smith, who spent 17 years as pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Boone, being named bishop of the North Carolina Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is like coming home again.

Not only is he returning to North Carolina, but specifically, to his hometown of Salisbury, where the N.C. bishop is headquartered.
