2018 Pa. midterm elections: the results are in

State election officials said voter turnout was comparable to that of a presidential election year.

Some voters in Bedford County told 6 News that voter turnout was so high there was a shortage of printed ballots.

Voters were able to cast their votes on blank ballots which needed to be hand counted.

In the 12th Congressional District, Republican Tom Marino defeated Democrat Marc Friedenberg.

Altoona doctor and Republican John Joyce defeated Democrat Brent Ottaway by a wide margin in the 13th Congressional District.

Incumbent Republican Rep. Glenn Thompson will get another term after defeating Democrat Susan Boser for a seat in the new 15th Congressional District.

In the 17th Congressional District, Democrat Conor Lamb defeated Republican Keith Rothfus in what was the only U.S. House race in the nation where two incumbents faced each other.

In the State Senate, the seat for the 30th District was open after being vacated by former state Sen. John Eichelberger. Republican Judy Ward defeated Democrat Emily Best for the open seat.

In District 32, Republican incumbent Pat Stefano defeated Democrat Pamela Gerard.

The state House had several close races.

The 71st District saw a huge upset with Republican Jim Rigby beating incumbent Democratic Rep. Bryan Barbin after nine years in office.

In the 72nd District, Democratic incumbent Frank Burns held onto the seat he has held since 2009, defeating Republican challenger Jerry Carnicella.
