Famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma has scheduled a second event in Worcester next month.

Ma, one of the most well-known classical musicians of his generation, is set to give a lecture and performance at Mechanics Hall on April 7. Music Worcester -- the organization behind the event -- announced Wednesday that it will add a second, 2 p.m. lecture in addition to Ma’s 5 p.m. discussion and performance.

“Celebrating Music Worcester’s 160th Anniversary Season with Yo-Yo Ma on April 7 was already a dream come true for the organization,” Music Worcester Executive Director Adrien C. Finlay said in a statement. “To be able to add this additional opportunity for him to reach area audiences at 2:00 PM suggests how far Music Worcester has come since its founding in 1858.”

The lecture, “Culture, Understanding and Survival,” will feature Ma talking about culture’s power to create moments of shared understanding and exploring culture, society and the themes that connect us all.

Drawing on examples from his own life, Ma will discuss what role culture plays in defining our future.
