South Bay/Peninsula athletes of the week

Shalom Filoialii, Overfelt
Sport: Football
Position: Athlete, safety
Class: Senior
Stood out on offense and defense as Overfelt edged Lincoln-San Jose — an upper division opponent — 33-30 for its first win of the season. Filoialii rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown in nine carries and was credited with 11 tackles. For the season, he has rushed for 348 yards and three touchdowns.

Paige Comiso, Presentation
Sport: Cross country
Class: Senior
Ran the 3-mile course at Hayward High in 18:00.02 to win the Farmer Invitational, a victory that helped lift Presentation to the team championship. Comiso’s time was more than seven seconds faster than the runner-up and 36 seconds faster than her time at this meet last season.

East Bay athletes of the week

Giles Jackson, Freedom
Sport: Football
Position: Athlete
Class: Junior
Rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns in 16 carries as Freedom (4-0) stayed perfect with a 40-28 victory over San Leandro. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Jackson also caught two passes for 52 yards and a touchdown. He has rushed for 535 yards and eight touchdowns for the season, averaging 9.2 yards per carry.

Andreea Paduraru, Foothill
Sport: Volleyball
Position: Outside hitter
Class: Senior
Led the Falcons to East Bay Athletic League victories over Carondelet, Dougherty Valley and San Ramon Valley and the championship in the Blue Division at the East County Invitational, finishing an 8-0 week for her team with 100 kills, 67 digs and 44 service points. Foothill beat California 32-30, 25-23 in the East County final.
