A self-proclaimed “outlaw” accused of slaying one man and wounding another was back in custody Tuesday after bustin out of a southern Missouri jail, according to a local report.

Alleged killer Daniel G. Campbell, 39, was re-arrested after 10 a.m. Tuesday, roughly 16 hours after his barefoot escape, according to the Houston Herald.

Campbell was spotted out of the woods “with his hands up” after being spotted by a police helicopter, according to the report. A stolen truck was also found, with a firearm inside.

He reportedly went to a home asking for help.

Monday’s escape out of the back of the Texas County jail was Campbell’s second flight from authorities following a deadly shooting in Licking that left one man dead and another critically wounded on Oct. 25. His first stint on the lam lasted nearly three days.

He was captured after a tipster led cops to his hideout — his mother’s church — about 120 miles southwest of St. Louis, also in Licking.

Campbell fatally shot Billy Dale Bishop II, 38, during what Texas County Sheriff James Sigman described as a longtime family feud with William T. Dumboksi, 55, who survived the attack, the Houston newspaper reported.

The gunman disguised his face with a bandanna, brandished a pistol in each hand and told his victims he was an “outlaw” before opening fire, Sigman said.

Bishop was an unintended victim, the sheriff added.
