Ex-Rutgers QB From Wayne Will Reportedly Play For ASA College

DeVara was dismissed earlier this year from the Rutgers University football team for violating team rules.

WAYNE, NJ — Former star Wayne Hills quarterback and ex-Rutgers player Brendan DeVara will reportedly play for the ASA College football team this season.

Richie Schnyderite, a recruiting analyst with Rutgers Rivals, first reported on the move Monday.

DeVara could not be immediately reached for comment on social media. Alan Tseng, ASA's sports information and marketing director, could not be reached for comment via phone or email.

ASA College is a for-profit institution with campuses in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Miami, Florida. More than 3,000 students are enrolled at the junior college.

Many ASA College Avengers football players move on to play Division I and Division II football. Twenty-four players made the move from ASA to Division I schools this year.

Rutgers University dismissed DeVara from the football team for violating team rules, according to NJ.com. DeVara was a sophomore at Rutgers.

DeVara played linebacker and special teams for the Scarlet Knights his freshman season. He appeared in 11 games, playing mostly on special teams. He had one tackle and assisted on another in 2017.

DeVara was a two-way player for Wayne Hills, playing at quarterback and linebacker as a senior. He helped the Patriots win an NJSIAA North Jersey 1 Group 4 title. He was named first team all-state, first team All-Group 4 by The Star-Ledger, and first-team All-Metro by MSG Varsity.
