ARDROSSAN’S Junior football team are looking to take the club to the next level with big plans for development on derelict land.

Ardrossan Winton Rovers revealed this week that they are at the early stages of planning and if the land behind their Winton Street ground becomes available, it could mean a whole new look for the community club.

As you can see from the plans that the club have provided to the Herald, there is scope for a whole range of new facilities and how much of it comes into fruition, will depend on the landowners, Network Rail, and the scale of funding available to the club.

Pat Breen, Chairman at Winton Rovers, said: “Discussions are ongoing with Network Rail to release the land, which is landlocked and the only access is through Winton Park. It has been lying empty for over 60 years.

“We are looking at a new stand, a new community training centre, smaller training facilities and a green gym. It is to cater for all sorts like walking football as well as n adventure play park.

“We are looking over two or three years at least for this, if we get the green light over the ground. We can’t see them saying no to at least a section of the land and then we can go for a smaller project.”

A new access road could be built and this would lead to improved parking in and around the Winton Street area.

The project has been ongoing for over a year after money was received from Our Place for a feasibility study into the land.

The key message that Pat and the rest of the team want to get across is that it isn’t all to do with the club, he explained and added: “It is not just about football, it is about the community in Ardrossan, it is helping all the local groups. It is not just about sport as well, it is about making use of a community hall that is in the town.”

There will be a public meeting on Wednesday, November 1 at 7pm at the Ardrossan Civic Centre where members of the public can look over plans for the Winton Community Sports Club and comment on them. All welcome.
