Memorial Day events throughout North County

Memorial Day ceremonies are slated throughout North County. Here are some events to remember and honor service members who died for the country:

DEL MAR

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will hold its annual community Memorial Day service remembering fallen service members at 11 a.m. Monday at 334 14th St. The Rev. Todd Delaney will lead a traditional service of hymns and prayer, followed by a “memorial roll call” of deceased members of the armed services. The service concludes with the playing of taps. ENCINITAS

A Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at San Dieguito American Legion Post 416 at 210 W. F St. followed by a Memorial Day Walk for the Fallen event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the post. The walk from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. includes 2-mile or half-mile courses or a “virtual walk.” The event features a beer garden, live music and Battle of Bands competition. The guest speaker is Rep. Mike Levin. Walk for the Fallen is $29; walk and barbecue with two drinks is $49; barbecue with two drinks, $25; barbecue alone is $10. Register at CALegionPost416.org; call (760) 908-3550.

ESCONDIDO

A ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Road. Highlights include a presentation of wreaths, posting of Colors and Pledge of Allegiance led by Boy Scout troops and Girl Scout troops. Taps will be played by 2nd U.S. Calvary Regimental Brass Band and the Frontier Army of the West will perform a rifle salute. FALLBROOK

A Memorial Day ceremony is at 10 a.m. Monday at the Masonic Cemetery, 1177 Santa Margarita Drive, followed by lunch at noon at Fallbrook Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1924, at 1175 Old Stage Road. Visit fallbrookvfw.org.

JULIAN

Memorial observance from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Julian Pioneer Cemetery, A Street at Farmer Road, weather permitting. A potluck will follow at American Legion Post 468, 2503 Washington St. In case of rain, the observance will be held at Post 468. (760) 765-0126.

OCEANSIDE

The Veterans Association of North County holds a remembrance starting at 10 a.m. Monday in the VANC Resource Center, 1617 Mission Ave. Lunch will be served after the program. Visit vancnorthcounty.org or call (760) 722-1277.

Eternal Hills Memorial Park holds its annual Memorial Day remembrance from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Eternal Hills, 1999 El Camino Real. The program includes a commemorative bell toll to honor fallen heroes. The ceremony will close with a benediction followed by a white dove release. A free lunch will be offered. Call (760) 754-6600.

The Veterans Organizations of North County Memorial Day Service is from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday May 27 at the Oceanside Elk Lodge, 444 Country Club Lane. Guest speakers include Congressman Mike Levin. Visit vfwpost10577.com.

The Mission San Luis Rey Parish holds a Memorial Day Mass at 8 a.m. Monday in the Serra Center, 4070 Mission Ave. There will be blessing of the graves at the cemetery after Mass. All are welcome. Call (760) 757-3250.

RAMONA

VFW Post 3783 will hold a ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at Nuevo Memory Gardens, 532 Ash St. (760) 789-7888.

RANCHO BERNARDO

A Memorial Day program begins at 10:45 a.m. Monday with a patriotic musical prelude at Rancho Bernardo’s Webb Park, Avena Place off Bernardo Center Drive. The master of ceremonies is retired Navy Cmdr. Nick Herbka, of the General J.P. Holland Chapter, Military Order of the World Wars. Keynote speaker is Marine Col. Daniel R. Kazmier. Ceremony includes invocation, a moment of silence, presentation of colors, posting of service flags, taps, presentation of a wreath and benediction. The national anthem will be sung by the Rancho Bernardo High School Madrigals. Bring chairs. Visit rbvma.org.

The Rancho Bernardo Historical Society hosts its 14th annual Pancake Festival honoring the military from 8 a.m. to noon Monday at Webb Park, thanks to Los Rancheros Kiwanis Club. Cost is $8; free for veterans, active military and children younger than 3. Visit rbhistory.org.

SAN MARCOS

VFW Post 3795 will host a ceremony with patriotic music, color guard and speakers at 10 a.m. Monday at San Marcos Cemetery, 1021 Mulberry Drive. Barbecue lunch will be served afterward at the post, 212 W. Mission Road. Call (760) 744-3795.

SOLANA BEACH

A Memorial Day ceremony with a dove release will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Monday in the Veterans Honor Courtyard at the La Colonia Community Center, 715 Valley Ave. Camp Pendleton Young Marines Color Guard will serve. The Santa Fe Christian School Band will perform patriotic songs. “Feathers From Heaven” Doves will be released. The Veterans Memorial wall honoring Solana Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars can be viewed. Light refreshments will be available. Call (858) 720-2453.

VALLEY CENTER

Valley Center Stampede Rodeo & Memorial Festival will be held from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and noon to 10 p.m. Saturday with a “Memorial Wall” honoring fallen service members at the Valley Center Community Center, 28246 Lilac Road. The rodeo will honor military service members and first responders who gave their lives in the line of duty. Rodeo gates will open at 5 p.m. Friday at 29902 Valley Center Road; Memorial Festival gates open at noon Saturday with rodeo gates opening at 2 p.m. General admission to the rodeo is $17, free for children 5 and younger. VISTA

The VFW Post 7041 and American Legion Post 365 will host a remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at the Vista Civic Center, 200 Civic Center Drive. Festivities and food continues from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the American Legion, 1234 S. Santa Fe Ave. Menu includes rib tips appetizer, $4; sparerib plate, $7; beans and coleslaw are also available.
