The Alamogordo Police Department are the top dogs in the fifth annual K-9 grant from Aftermath Services winning $5,000 to help jumpstart their K-9 unit.

APD was competing for the K-9 grant with other police departments nationwide. The K-9 unit will honor fallen Alamogordo police officer Clint Corvinus.

“It’s been an effort by so many people and the community, the state of New Mexico and our extended family in law enforcement that have done such an outstanding job in supporting our department during our loss,” said Deputy Chief of Police Roger Schoolcraft. “It’s just a blessing for everyone involved and we couldn’t have done it without the community’s help to fulfill our officer’s dream.”

The Alamogordo Police Department won a $5,000 K-9 grant that will go towards a K-9 unit, safety equipment or a training program in honor of fallen Alamogordo Police Department officer Clint Corvinus.

Schoolcraft also thanked local business owners who donated towards their K-9 fund.

“I just want to recognize the community and business owners who really stepped forward to help,” he said.
