It always feels like it won't happen... but for today at least, it seems like summer is here in Ayrshire.

The temperature is expected to get as high as 28 degrees, so make sure you get out and make the most of it.

But before you do, we've put together a little list of things that remind us of every summer we've enjoyed here in Ayrshire.

What are your summer memories? Head to our Facebook page and share them with us.

1. Pack on to the bus and head for the beach in shorts, flip flops and sunglasses - as soon as the temperature hits 12 degrees

It's the true sign that we've got to the summer months - even if the temperature isn't there, we love a good beach trip. After all - summer doesn't last that long, so we might as well pretend we're making the most of it...

2. Everyone flocks to the two pubs in the town that actually have a beer garden, whether it's Smiths in Ayr or the First Edition in Kilmarnock

Nothing beats a lazy afternoon in the sun at your favourite pub. Unfortunately in Ayrshire, we aren't blessed with a tremendous amount of beer gardens - and you can bet the ones we can boast will be packed to the rafters.

Sun worshippers at Ayr beach

3. We all get to have a moan about everyone coming and using OUR beaches

It's not just people from around Ayrshire that head to the beach in their droves - trains head down from the central belt absolutely packed with sun worshippers. And of course, some people will always have a moan about all our sunny visitors.

4. Spending £2 on a disposable barbecue and £20 on things to cook on your way to the beach, and giving everyone a dicky stomach with your dodgy cooking

Ayr's old Butlins' Wonderwest World entrance sign

5. Making a pilgrimage to Butlins to enjoy a seaside break - even though it's 20 minutes from your front door

For most people in Ayrshire, the sea is right on our doorstep - but that hasn't stopped generations of people making the short hop to Craig Tara - formerly Butlins - just down the coast to enjoy a seaside break that's so close they could nip home to feed the cat.

6. Getting the flat stick out and heading for the putting at Prestwick shore

7. Or borrowing your dad's driver and spending the afternoon traipsing through fields, aimlessly driving a golf ball miles in front

Freshly baked Greggs pasties - a surprise summer favourite

8. The streets are suddenly filled with people trying to bring Paris to the streets of Ayrshire with everyone dining 'al fresco' at cafes, restaurants... and Greggs

While it might not be as sophisticated as sipping coffee by the Seine or enjoying the sun by a canal, that doesn't stop people from enjoying their lunch al freso, with Greggs pasties often the summer snack of choice.

9. Rolling up your t-shirt sleeves and sunbathing by the River Ayr, as if were on the banks of the Nile

10. Everyone stopping en masse to look at the newly born cygnets at the bridges in Ayr

The Wellington and Renaldo's doing a roaring trade in the sun

11. Queues snaking around the street at Renaldo's or The Forum for a delicious taste of Irn Bru ice cream, or watching dozens of folk waiting in baking hot heat for chips.

These local favourites are always packed out - and with good reason. A mix of hungry locals and starving visitors ensures a bumper day for our favourite ice cream or fish and chip shops. And no matter how long you wait - it's always worth it, especially on a day like today.

12. Setting sail on the high seas for your annual trip to Arran

13. Strolling past your local swimming baths to go to the Magnum for the outdoor swimming pool

Police horses are the centre of attention at Troon beach

14. Police patrolling the packed beaches on their horses - and their trusty steeds becoming the true centre of attention

Take a trip down Ayr, Troon, Irvine, Prestwick or any of our beautiful beaches on a summer's day and you'll be greeted with police out on patrol - and their hooves friends are always a popular attraction. Not quite the Blackpool donkeys - but it's close.

15. Gardens from Largs to Barrhill transforming with a splash of Hollywood glamour... as paddling pools become the 'in thing'.

16. Ayr's Low Green being packed from the end of May until what seems like Christmas - from families decanting to the seafront or events like the Holy Fair and Scottish International Airshow.

17. And finally... heading for the beach and catching a summer cold when you realise it's about 10 degrees too cold to be out with shorts and no top on.
