Like all tech products, tablets are constantly being updated. This means there are plenty of deals on last-generation iPads and tablets, as well as the occasional discount on the latest models. Here, we list the best genuine tablet deals available right now.

Best iPad and tablet deals for 2024

We check top retailers to find the best deals on tablets and iPads. We only include offers on tablets that perform well in our lab tests. If a tablet doesn't meet a decent standard of quality, then you won't find it on this list – even if it's been heavily reduced.

It's rare to see a current iPad with a discount but we managed to find good deals on the 2022 iPad Pro and 2022 iPad, plus the Mini and iPad from 2021. Usually you'll need to wait until a new version comes out, as that's when the previous model will drop in price. 

Best iPad deals

Apple iPad 2022 64GB wifi

• 10.9-inch screen
• A14 processor and 4GB of Ram
• 2,360 x 1,640-pixel resolution display

We like: Great screen

We don’t like: Bass can get lost

This 2022 version of the iPad has a 10.9-inch, 1,640 x 2,360-pixel display screen - which is better than HD. The version we tested has a 64GB hard drive, but there’s a 256GB model available too. You can’t expand the memory in any way, so make sure you buy one that’s got enough for your needs. 

It has 4GB of Ram and the A14 Bionic Chip – this is the same chip that powers the iPhone 12 range. But how did it measure up against the opposition in our lab tests?

Apple iPad Pro 2022 11-inch

• 11-inch screen
• M2 processor and 8GB of Ram
• 2,388 x 1,668-pixel resolution display

We like: Terrific operating system

We don’t like: Speech can sound a bit harsh

This is the latest iPad Pro, Apple’s most high-end tablet range aimed at users who require more powerful processors. The specs, particularly the M2 processor, are what you’d normally find in a MacBook Pro (early 2023). Combined with 8GB of Ram, it makes the iPad Pro one of the beefiest tablets around. 

The model we tested has a 128GB hard drive. It’s a good size, but you need to be sure it’s enough, as there’s no way of increasing it with a micro-SD card. There’s also a 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB option, plus a 5G version available for each storage size. Opting for 5G adds £180 to the price, plus the cost of a data plan.

Apple iPad Mini

• 8-inch screen
• A15 processor and 4GB of Ram
• 2,266 x 1,488-pixel resolution display

We like: Slick and swift operation

We don’t like: More reflections than we’d like on the screen 

This 8-inch iPad from Apple was released in 2021. It's powerful and can handle demanding graphics and apps. 

The version we tested has 64GB of storage - there is a 256GB version, too. That’s a reasonable amount of space, but you need to be sure it will be enough before you buy as there's no micro-SD slot to increase the memory.

Best Samsung Galaxy tab deals

Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ 64GB

• 11-inch screen
• USB-C charging
• Runs the Android operating system

We like: Easy to use

We don't like: Poor cameras, based on our lab tests

This 11-inch tablet has a screen resolution is 1,200 x 1,920 - so it’s around Full HD. The processor has eight cores and is supported by 4GB of Ram, which is about what we’d expect from a tablet this price. The eight cores are designed for multi-tasking and to improve efficiency, since the tablet won’t use the more powerful, battery-intensive cores for simple processes.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 2021

• 10.5-inch screen
• USB-C charging
• Runs the Android operating system

We like: Responsive touchscreen

We don't like: Not much battery after a quick 30-minute charge

The A8 is from the lower end of Samsung's range, but the 1,200 x 1,920-pixel display should make it an ideal choice for Full HD videos on Netflix and YouTube (although it won't be able to show the improvements in 4K content). 

It comes with a small 32GB hard drive that you can expand if you add a micro-SD card. A quick charge of 30 minutes will give you just over 1 hour 15 minutes of battery life.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra

• 14.6-inch screen
• USB-C charging
• Runs the Android operating system

We like: Includes an S Pen for drawing and writing 

We don't like: Requires a keyboard to make the most out of it 

It’s Samsung’s biggest tablet ever, and one of the biggest we’ve tested. The 14.6-inch display is almost 2 inches bigger than the iPad Pro and Microsoft Surface Pro X. The resolution is 2,960 x 1,484 pixels, so it’s far sharper than HD. 

It's packed with enough processing power to rival a high-end laptop and has 12GB of Ram – 50% more than many rival models. The model we tested has a 256GB hard drive, but it's the larger 512GB model that's getting the best reductions at the moment.

Best Android tablet deals

Lenovo Tab M9

• 8.9-inch screen
• 3GB of Ram
• 32GB of storage

We like: Runs quickly

We didn't like: Hard disk is too small so you'll need to buy a micro-SD card

There are strong contenders at the entry-level end of tablets, with Samsung and Amazon releasing solid options. It means tablets like this M9 need to be good to compete. 

It doesn't have the best specs on paper, but that doesn't always tell the whole story – which is why we leave no stone unturned when testing every tablet.

Lenovo Tab M10 Plus (3rd Gen)

• 10.6-inch screen

We like: Cheap for a 10-inch tablet

We didn't like: Poor cameras in our tests

The third generation Lenovo Tab M10 Plus is one of the cheaper 10-inch tablets on the market. Its specs may be more basic than some other mid or high-end tablets – but it still has a 1,200 x 2,000-pixel display and a claimed 12-14 hours of battery life.

Best Microsoft tablet deals

Microsoft Surface Pro 9

• 13-inch screen
• 8GB of Ram
• 256GB of storage

We like: Intuitive operating system

We don't like: Needs a keyboard to make the most of it

Microsoft sells this model as a 2-in-1 tablet with the power of a laptop and versatility of a tablet. It has a 13-inch 1,920 x 2,880-pixel screen, which puts it at the bigger end of the tablet scale. 

The model we tested has a Core i5-1235U processor backed up by 8GB of Ram; there are also 16GB and 32GB versions.

Best Amazon tablet deals

Amazon Fire 7

• 7-inch tablet
• 600 x 1,024-pixel resolution
• 2GB Ram

We like: Low price for a tablet

We don’t like: Speakers and cameras aren’t the best we’ve seen in our tests

The Amazon Fire 7 is slightly less advanced than other Fire tablets, but it still has its perks. It’s easy to use for basic tasks, the buttons are well placed and it's light. 

This version comes with 16GB storage. It runs Fire OS, Amazon's own operating system, and is intuitive to use if you've handled a tablet or phone before.

How to spot a good deal on an iPad or tablet

Martin Pratt, Which? tablets expert, says: 

• iPads are rarely on offer, so any discount you spot is likely to be a good one. To double-check though, the Apple store will show the iPad at the standard retail price, so you can see if the deal is worthwhile.
• Look out for 'deals' that are actually adding a load of extra stuff you may not need, such as app subscriptions, styluses and cases. Odds are, if it's a 'starter pack offer' to try and keep the price as close to the RRP as possible, another retailer will have it for a true discount without all those unnecessary extras.
• Don't worry about buying an older tablet. Models released in 2022 or 2021 are still worth a look, but check our tablet software update policy page to make sure you'll still get plenty of updates in years to come.

Finding an iPad deal

The Apple website provides you with a good baseline of how much an iPad costs, because Apple never discounts new models there. Knowing the true full price will make it easier to work out if you're getting a decent discount on other sites. Click to go to the Apple iPad website.

When shopping around for deals and looking at sale prices, be mindful that there are multiple generations of iPads on sale at the same time. So make sure you know which one you're buying. Our best iPads guide will help you out. 

There’s nothing wrong with buying an older-generation iPad – in fact, it’s a great way to save money. But make sure you’re comparing like for like, rather than a newer, more expensive model with an older, cheaper one.

Refurbished models

Another way to keep costs down is to consider a refurbished tablet. Apple never has deals on new tablets, but there's a section on its official site for refurbished iPads that come with a one-year warranty. What’s available varies from one model to the next, but you should be able to save at least 20% on a refurbished tablet over a new one.

Finding a Microsoft Surface tablet deal

It’s sensible to start your search for a Surface tablet on the Microsoft Store website. 

This is the place to find the true price of the model and specification you’re after – and you might even find a discount while you’re there. It might be a simple discount on a specification, or it could be a discounted or free accessory when you buy a tablet at the full price.

If that doesn't work, it’s highly likely you’ll find a discount from various retailers. Make sure you check all the specifications and colour options, as discounts might only be on one or two of these at any one time.

Finding an Amazon Fire tablet deal

Amazon Fire tablets are well priced to start with, but still, deals do come along fairly regularly. You'll often find the best prices on the Amazon Fire site, and you can sometimes find decent discounts at Argos and Currys, among others. 

If there's nothing available on the day you search, you probably won't have to wait long for a discount to materialise. So if you don’t need to buy right now, it could pay to wait until a deal comes up.
