James A. Midgley, Obituary

Beloved husband, father and grandfather; longtime resident of Huntington and volunteer firefighter.

MIDGLEY - James Ambrose Midgely, age 86, beloved husband of Helene Marie Cosgrove Midgley of Shelton and Green Acres, FL, died peacefully on August 14, 2018, in his home, surrounded by his family. Born in NYC on March 7, 1932, he was the son of the late James C. and Ann Marie Higgins Midgley. Mr. Midgely was a graduate of St. Ann’s Academy of NYC and worked in engineering and manufacturing for the Circon-ACMI Co. of Stamford and previously for the Bell & Howell Co. Together with his wife, they owned & operated the Miba Grocery Store of Devon for five years. A longtime resident of Huntington, (before spending the winters in Green Acres, FL), Mr. Midgley was an active member of the Huntington Volunteer Fire Department, Co. 3 and assisted in battling the B.F. Goodrich fire of 1975. He was also a member of the Huntington Exchange Club and enjoyed playing chess and participating in chess competitions. In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Rev. James J. (MaryEllen) Midgley of Monroe, Ellen (Mike) Azize of Shelton and Stephen G. (Marjorie) Midgley of Stafford Springs; cherished grandchildren, Devin Midgley of Stafford Springs and James R. Midgely of Monroe; step-grandchildren, David Adams of Stamford, Heather Adams of Shelton and Britney Adams of Monroe; and nieces and nephew, Kathy Midgley Eldridge, Mary Midgley Thompson and Robert Midgley, all of OR. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald (Miriam) Midgley. Funeral Services (Meeting Directly at Church) will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 10:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church, 47 Franklin St., Ansonia, with his son, Rev. James J. Midgley, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Monroe. Family and friends may call on Friday, August 17, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia.
