The Ocala Police Department has released the name of the woman who died in a car crash Sunday on west State Road 40.

Kathryn Marie Iredale, 35, of Dunnellon, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 1 p.m. on SR 40 near Northwest 49th Avenue, according to an OPD report.

The report indicates Iredale was driving a 2005 Ford 500 in the outside westbound lane of SR 40 when, according to the driver and a passenger in a car in an eastbound lane, the Ford "accelerated and they observed the driver leaning back in the as the vehicle swerved into the eastbound lanes" and into the path of their car. She said she "accelerated to avoid a head-on crash" and the Ford went off the road and hit a fire hydrant and a tree.

The OPD report states the weather at the time was "cloudy " and the roadway was "wet." Iredale was wearing her a seat belt.

Ocala Fire Rescue and Marion County Fire Rescue and the Florida Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.
