NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Interviews will begin in the search for Metro Nashville's new director of schools on Monday.

This comes after a tumultuous end to former director Shawn Joseph's tenure as director last year.

Metro's School Board had their pick from 19 applicants for the new director of school's position. They've narrowed it down to five candidates who will be interviewed starting Monday night.

First up will be Dr. Shelly Redinger, who is currently the superintendent at Spokane Public Schools in Washington.

Tuesday, Dr. Rod Richmond will sit in front of the board. He's currently the executive director of student support services with Shelby County Schools in West Tennessee.

On Wednesday, the current interim director, Dr. Adrienne Battle, will have her interview.

Thursday, the public will hear from Brenda Elliot, the chief of school improvement and supports, and chief of equity with D.C. Public Schools.

Last on the list is Brian Kingsley, who is the chief academic officer with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina.

It's a big role to fill with the new director overseeing 80,000 students and tackling big issues the city has been dealing with for years, like teacher pay and morale issues.

Each night this week, those interviews will begin at 6 p.m. at the Davidson County Board of Education on Bransford Avenue. The interviews will consist of the same questions from board members for each candidate.

Prior to the interview, families and community members can come out at 4 p.m. and there's a meeting for faculty and staff at 5 p.m.
