Six hours before the Boca Raton man was arrested for DUI in Tamarac, he left the scene of a deadly crash in Deerfield Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

David Posta, 42, has been in jail in Broward since his May 5 arrest for misdemeanor DUI.

On Friday, it was announced that he is now accused of leaving the scene after a woman was hit and killed while walking in a bike lane along Ocean Drive in Deerfield Beach. The new charge is a felony.

Detectives have “determined David Posta was behind the wheel” when it veered and hit Tina Cagnana, 47, as she walked with her teen daughter on May 4, said Keyla Concepcion, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Cagnana, who was thrown 40 feet, died at the hospital. Her daughter was not injured.

It is not clear why Posta was not charged in Cagnana’s death.

Cagnana was hit at 8:17 p.m.

Six hours later at a 7-Eleven, a deputy spotted Posta sitting in a white Ford F-150 with a heavily damaged front end, an arrest report said.

The truck was sitting on its rims on the passenger’s side, the report said.

Posta refused to take a breathalyzer test and was arrested for DUI.
