Men’s Basketball Faces Liberty Friday

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State University men's basketball team is set to host the Liberty Flames in the M.A.C. Center on Friday night at 7 p.m.

- The Kent State University men's basketball team will look to start the season 3-0 on Friday night in the game against Liberty University.

-This game marks the second game of Kent's four-game homestand at the M.A.C. Center.

- The Flashes are coming off back-to-back victories, first over Cleveland State, 83-79, at CSU, and followed up with a victory over NAIA opponent Shawnee State, 90-79 for their home opener.

- On Tuesday against Shawnee State, Kent State won with production across the box score. Six players scored in double figures, while 34 points came from the bench. Jalen Avery led the pack with 17 points, two rebounds, and dished out five assists. Newcomer Antonio Williams wasn't far behind with 12 points, seven rebounds, and four rebounds.

-Philip Whittington recorded his first double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. BJ Duling also had a notable performance with 12 points and three rebounds off the bench, along with senior Akiean Frederick with 11 points and four rebounds.

-Over two games, the Flashes have scored 38 points in fast break points, 31 of those were against Shawnee State.

- Friday's game against Liberty marks the first meeting between both programs.

-Liberty is 2-0 to the year after victories against Maine Fort Kent (89-40) and Trevecca Nazarene (93-40). Lovell Cabbil is the leading scorer for the Flames averaging 15 ppg and 2.5 rebounds again.

-Ritchie McKay is in his sixth season coaching the Flames and is 97-76 overall. He was the associate head coach under Tony Bennett at Virginia previously.
