Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Commander Monte Reiser will be promoted to chief deputy in February, replacing Jason Gates, who is retiring.

Gates, who serves as Wood Village's unofficial chief of police, started at MCSO in 1992 and was promoted to chief deputy in 2011. He said he plans to spend his retirement camping, hunting and fishing.
