Restored Bonnie and Clyde Heads Back to U.S. Theaters to Celebrate 50th Anniversary

Posted July 14, 2017 03:42 PM by

Warner Home Video LogoFathom Events, Turner Classic Movies and Warner Bros. Entertainment will present a special two-day event to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of director Arthur Penn's classic film Bonnie and Clyde (1967), starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, The film will return to select cinemas nationwide on Sunday, August 13th and Wednesday, August 16th.

Synopsis: Celebrate the 50th anniversary of this iconic film with a special screening and enjoy exclusive commentary from a TCM host Ben Mankiewicz. For tickets and participating theaters, visit http://bit.ly/BonnieClydeYT.

Depression-era drifters Clyde Barrow (Beatty) and Bonnie Parker (Dunaway) embark on a life of crime. They crave adventure - and each other. We are unprepared for the cascading violence that follows; we learn they can be hurt - and dread they will be killed. The vivid title-role performances get superb support from Michael J. Pollard, Gene Hackman and Estelle Parsons, 1967 Best Supporting Actress Academy Award winner. Bonnie And Clyde continually dazzles, thanks to director Arthur Penn, cinematographer Burnett Guffey (winner of the films second Oscar) and editor Dede Allen. Decades later, it's still a thunderous, thrilling ride.

*The classic film was restored in 4K by Warner Bros. and the restoration is already available on Blu-ray courtesy of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Click on the link above to see our listing and review of this release.

What?! Am I missing something? The BD came from a regular HD master didn't it? If a new 4k scan has been made, well, great news!

dannalexcon, you are missing something. The original Bonnie and Clyde blu-ray release was sourced from one of WB early 4K scans/masters.

Just to be clear. Apart from a handful of US major-city cinemas, and no new BD release, this amounts to nothing at all.

I saw a trailer today for a Fathom events screening of "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" and it looked like complete crap. I've never actually attended a Fathom events screening because I've heard that they're technically awful, although I don't know why that should be the case - a decent scan and a true DCP should result in an acceptable presentation, but if they're gonna' make Bonnie and Clyde look that bad, I'll pass.

"The classic film was restored in 4K by Warner Bros." -- you know what that means, WB... UHD me!

The older blu ray is from 2008 and is encoded with the VC-1 codec (and a very low bit rate 16 mbps). This film deserves a 2017 4K restoration and eventual 4K UHD release getting this film to look glorious and take advantage of the newer 4K remastering. Sorry, if this is the older 4K scan from 2007ish showing on the big screen then I will pass. Thanks for nothing Warner!
