MPAC announces lineup for 2017/18 season: 10 must-sees in Morristown

MORRISTOWN -- As Mayo Performing Arts Center enters its 23rd year in Morristown, the center has released another diverse lineup for its new season and it's sure to provide something for everyone.

The season's top draws include Anderson Cooper, Randy Newman, ZZ Top and more.

Allison Larena, President and CEO of MPAC, said that this is in line with their goal, which is to deliver the best in entertainment to Morristown.

"Each year our goal is to bring the world's most diverse entertainment to Morristown, and we have assembled another lineup that reflects the best of the performing arts, including headliners, amazing Broadway productions, fun family events, incredible music and dance from around the world and so much more."

The Righteous Brothers will kick off the new season at this premiere arts and cultural venue.

Here are the ten standout events you don't want to miss.

July 19: The New York Bee Gees
A cover band consisting of Long Island's most talented musicians, the New York Bee Gees present the best Bee Gee shows a fan can possibly experience. The band plays classic 70's disco hits from "Stayin' Alive" to "Massachusetts" and you won't want to miss it.

September 15: Randy Newman
Another prominent and exceptionally talented 70's musician, Randy Newman's music spans many generations. He released several acclaimed albums like "12 songs" and "Good Old Boys," which launched him into the spotlight. Newman has also scored movies such as "Seabiscuit,"  "A Bug's Life" and all three "Toy Story" pictures.

September 16: Anderson Cooper
A well-respected journalist, Anderson Cooper is the face of CNN. He has reported from countless foreign countries and moderated the 2016 presidential debates, among others. He is also a correspondent for the CBS News program "60 Minutes."

September 30: The Orchestra
The Orchestra will feature performers from Electric Light Orchestra, also known as ELO. Violin prodigy Mik Kaminski and bassist Lou Clark are just two of the many accomplished musicians who will be playing 70's hits like "Evil Woman," "Don't Bring Me Down" and "Hold On Tight."

October 31: ZZ Top
The American blues-rock trio are sure to be a crowd pleasure as they perform some of the top hits from their popular album "Eliminator," including "Gimme All Your Lovin'" and "Sharp Dressed Man." The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees will bring back plenty of nostalgia.

November 3: Kenny G
One of the best instrumental musicians of all time, Kenny G will deliver signature Jazz sounds from his Grammy Award winning album "Breathless," which sold over 12 million copies in the United States alone.

November 16: Brain Candy Live!
This family-friendly event will feature Adam Savage from "Mythbusters" and Youtube star Michael Stevens. The mind-blowing experiments and crazy toys will have the kids glued to their seats.

December 8-24, 2018: New Jersey Ballet's "Nutcracker" with New Jersey Symphony Orchestra
For more than 50 years New Jersey Ballet's "Nutcracker" has brought joy to families during the holiday season. This production will be no different with colorful costumes and scenery and incredible special effects. Definitely a must-see!

March 3 & 4, 2018: A Chorus Line
The 4th largest running show in Broadway history,  "A Chorus Line" is a staple in the world of theater. The minimal sets and scenery emphasize tremendous emotion that will leave spectators in awe.

April 19, 2018: Cheech and Chong
Hippie comedic duo Cheech and Chong have become legends in the comedy world and are a symbol of American counter-culture. The duo recorded six gold comedy albums, including the 1973 Grammy winner "Los Cochinos." They also starred in eight films, including "Up in Smoke," which was the highest grossing comedy in 1978 topping $100 million at the box office.
