Chattanooga's Moxy Hotel on King Street
Tall warehouse undergoing makeover
The first guests have arrived at Chattanooga's new-style hotel The Moxy. And King Street is finally open through to South Market.
The 108-room hotel near the corner of Market behind the St. John's Restaurant offers a host of unusual features. It's the world's only Moxy in a mid-size city.
The rooms are sans such traditional items as irons, safes, refrigerators and closets, but Marriott found many guests were not using those anyway.
For those needing to iron, there's an ironing room with an industrial-grade iron available on each floor.
There are pegs for hanging what few clothes travelers often have with them for hanging up at night.
In the spacious lobby, there are plenty of food and beverage items, including a number of flatbread offerings.
In the sleek, colorful quarters, there is also a library, a game room complete with Scrabble, a movie room with old-fashioned bean bags and a workout room featuring the same bicycle that's in every Moxy around the world.
In this Moxy gym, there's a neat wall display telling you just how long you need to exercise to work off, for example, a Moon Pie.
Outside near tracks that cross Market, there's a train-themed area for fresh-air relaxing. A portion of this large area can be rented for a variety of happenings, including an upcoming goat yoga event.
Rooms at the Moxy are about $130, except for peak times.
Nearby on the same property, the same developers are finishing out the redo of a former tall warehouse building.
