Another techie goes to Washington: Twitter CEO Dick Costolo will join a presidential advisory committee.
Last night, President Obama announced that he will name Costolo to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC). Costolo has been CEO of Twitter since October, when he took over from co-founder Evan Williams.
Obama will also add David DeWalt, McAfee president and Scott Charney, a corporate VP at Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing Group. Others already on the committee include Sprint CEO Dan Hesse, Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg and AT&T Operations CEO John Stankey.
NSTAC has existed for over 25 years, and exists to help address "critical national security and emergency preparedness," especially as regards "the availability and reliability of telecommunication services."
Costolo's appointment to the committee is the latest in the string of exchanges between Washington and Silicon Valley. Facebook announced Thursday that two former Bush staffers would join its team. In February, Obama joined Apple CEO Steve Jobs, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and former Google CEO Eric Schmidt for a dinner in San Francisco.
