SUMTER, SC (WIS) - In the past week, there have been two reports of shootings on Bowman Drive in Sumter.

Back on Monday, 29-year-old Lakeith Leonard was found dead on the street with gun shot wounds. Four suspects are in custody in connection with that shooting.

But now, police are back to the street investigating another shooting involving a group of teenagers.

India Nathaniel, 13, lives on Bowman Drive with her grandmother and niece.

"We just got onto the floor and stayed there because it was like five gun shots," described Nathaniel of the shooting incident.

Nathaniel spent part of her Friday night laying on the ground and hidden in a closet.
According to a police incident report, a shooting happened around 9pm and involved a 14-year-old and 18-year-old suspect and five victims ranging from 13 years old to 18 years old.

The report says one of the suspects asked the group if they wanted to fight. The group responded with no and stated they weren't there to fight, they were there to shoot. That's when the report says the teens fired.

"I hardly come outside because they are shooting out here," said Nathaniel.

Nathaniel's grandmother, Shirley, is thinking about leaving the neighborhood.

"I was thinking about moving because we have been standing out here on several occasions and we've have heard gun shots and stuff like that," said Shirley.

At only 13, Nathaniel says she is tired of the violence around her.

"My friends will come to school and brag on it," said Nathaniel. "Why are you bragging on stuff like that? You could have been the one that got hurt, I could have been the one that got hurt."

Sumter police officials were not available for comment on the recent violence.
