Texas High girls to tango today with Frisco Liberty

WILLS POINT, Texas-Frisco Liberty will be Texas High girls' next challenge in their postseason journey tonight.

With their bi-district win Monday against Highland Park, the Lady Tigers have won six straight.

The Lady Redhawks, who compiled a 23-11 overall record, are also on a run, winning their last five.

Texas High and Liberty clash at 8 p.m. in an area-round game at Wills Point High School.

"They're very well-coached and are pretty big inside," Texas High head coach Craig Collvins said. "They're built to play in the perimeter, and do a good job at running their plays.

Starting for the Lady Tigers will be Kiasyia Morrison, Vicki Willis, Antonia Porter, Mia Wilson and Maranda Miller.

The Lady Tigers will stick to their normal routine and try to force turnovers with their in-your-face press, while quickly creating opportunities in transition, and keeping Liberty off of the charity stripe.

"If we can get them to turn the ball over, it will spark our offense," Collvins said. With the way we press, it's hard for teams to prepare for that in the small amount of time in practice before games.

"Also, if we can come out and not put them on the foul line, I'll like our chances even more. When you start getting to the second and third rounds, the teams seem to be able to shoot well at the line."

Coming off the bench is Nia Wilson, Sadeya Finley, Brittany Kyle, Unique McBride, Amiya Rone, Kerrighan Dunn and Kiya Mitchell.

The winner of tonight's game will play the victor of the Wylie East-The Colony game in the regional quarterfinal round.

Game will be broadcast on KTXK 94.1 beginning at 7:50 p.m.
