This figures to be one of busiest weekends of the year

Since we publish a calendar every day on page three, we typically have a good gauge on what’s going on from day to day in LaGrange and Troup County. However, even we needed to make a list to make sure we didn’t miss any activities that are going on this weekend.

This figures to be one of the busier weekends of the year, if you factor in Friday through Sunday.

Gladys Knight will be in concert on Friday night at Sweetland Amphitheatre as the second part of the venue’s summer concert series. The seven-time Grammy winner and Atlanta native will undoubtedly put on a great show, but she’ll just be kicking off an exceptional weekend.

Also this weekend, the Great American Cleanup will take place all around Troup County. The cleanup is sponsored by Keep Troup Beautiful and is focusing this year on cleaning your own block to make LaGrange, West Point and Hogansville a more beautiful place to live.

As part of the cleanup, the city of LaGrange is shutting down for all non-essential employees Friday morning, so that employees can pick up litter.

Saturday will also be a big day for The Thread, which will hold a ribbon cutting event starting at 9 a.m. at Eastside Park. A 5K will be held as part of the celebration. A cutest dog contest and 1-mile walk will also be held.

Also on Saturday, Harmony House will hold “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” starting at Sweetland.

The international men’s march is meant to bring awareness to rape, sexual assault and gender violence.

It starts at 11 a.m. and will end at 2 p.m. And, if you aren’t worn out by 5 p.m. Saturday, Taste of the Town will be held at Wild Leap Brew Co. from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Junior Service League is organizing the event, which will include local restaurants and food vendors.

Admission is free, although a monetary donation will be asked for to benefit the Circles of Troup County.

And not to be forgotten, the LaGrange Lions Club will hold a field day from noon to 4 p.m. starting at The Thread on West Haralson Street. On Sunday, the Sons of Lafayette will hold their spring concert at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. and at First Presbyterian Church.

And to be honest, we’re sure there’s another event or two we left out.

What a great weekend to be outdoors and to enjoy LaGrange. We hope to see you out and about at multiple events.
