The search for a kayaker who was reported to be in difficulties off the Aberdeenshire coast has resumed.

The alert was triggered by a radio call to the Coastguard reporting a kayaker in distress at about 16:00 on Saturday.

A search and rescue helicopter, three lifeboats and shore-based coastguard teams were involved in the initial operation, which was suspended overnight.

A scaled-down search off Banff Links resumed on Sunday morning.

Aberdeen Coastguard said Macduff Lifeboat and ground teams were going over the area searched on Saturday.

It is understood that no-one has been reported missing.
