94-year-old Wayne County woman hit, killed by car while getting her mail

SODUS, N.Y. -- A 94-year-old woman was struck and killed by a passing motorist Saturday afternoon while she was getting her mail in the town of Sodus, according to New York State Police.

Doris Richardson was struck by the vehicle at about 12:41 p.m. on Ridge Road, state police said. She was taken to Strong Hospital by Mercy Flight and was pronounced dead.

Terry Raymond, 47, of Wolcott, was traveling east on Ridge Road when Richardson was crossing the road. Troopers said Raymond took "evasive action but was unable to avoid" striking Richardson.

The investigation is continuing, troopers said.
