Seattle Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch to miss second straight game

Marshawn Lynch will miss a second straight week for the Seattle Seahawks because of a hamstring strain.

The team Friday officially ruled Lynch out for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Lynch injured his hamstring in the second quarter of the team’s 26-0 victory over the Chicago Bears in Week 3. Lynch returned to limited participation in practice Thursday but is not ready to return. He will not travel with the team to Cincinnati.

“He could try to come back and play, but we think he’d be vulnerable,” Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll said. “He needs another weekend to get through it and then by next week, by Wednesday or something, we think we can get him going again. We’re just about over the hump.”

Backup Fred Jackson is listed as questionable after suffering a high-ankle sprain last week against Detroit, but Carroll was optimistic Jackson would be able to play.

Buffalo’s LeSean McCoy may miss another month

LeSean McCoy can’t outrun an injury to his left hamstring that could potentially sideline the star Buffalo running back for another month.

McCoy said Friday the medical staff gave him a three- to four-week timetable to recover from the injury he aggravated during practice Sept. 24. That could delay his return until after the Bills come back from their bye week off to host the Dolphins on Nov. 8.

Bills’ Jerry Hughes gets double fine

Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes has been fined more than $30,000 by the NFL for incidents in last weekend’s loss to the New York Giants.

Hughes, who has a history of verbally admonishing game officials, was fined $23,152 Friday for abusive language toward an official. He also was docked $8,681 for unnecessary roughness for head-butting Giants rookie tackle Ereck Flowers.

New York receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was fined $8,681 for throwing punches and striking Buffalo’s Duke Williams in that game.

Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey used the football as a pillow after catching a touchdown pass at Arizona. That cost him $8,681 for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Brian Hoyer back as Houston starting quarterback

Brian Hoyer has his job back as Houston’s starting quarterback.

Hoyer won the job out of camp but was pulled in the fourth quarter of a season-opening loss to the Chiefs after committing two turnovers. Ryan Mallett has started since then, but he has struggled and Hoyer took over in both of the last two games as the Texans fell to 1-4.

Hoyer replaced Mallett in the second quarter Thursday night and threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns. He was intercepted by Mike Adams with less than two minutes left to help seal the Colts’ 27-20 victory.

Saints’ top draft pick Andrus Peat may start

New Orleans Saints left tackle Terron Armstead has been ruled out for Sunday’s game at Philadelphia, opening the way for the club’s top draft pick, Andrus Peat, to make his first NFL start.

Armstead has not practiced this week after playing through a knee injury in last Sunday night’s victory over Dallas. The 6-foot-7, 316-pound Peat was drafted 13th overall out of Stanford last spring.

Tennessee Titans right guard Chance Warmack (sprained knee ligament) does not know whether he will be able to play Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. ... Green Bay Packers right tackle Bryan Bulaga could return for Sunday’s game against St. Louis after missing the last three weeks with a left knee injury. ... Strong side linebacker Devon Kennard and defensive linemen Robert Ayers Jr. and George Selvie are going to miss the New York Giants game Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers with injuries. ... The Detroit Lions have ruled out running back Joique Bell, tight end Eric Ebron and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata for their game against the Arizona Cardinals. Bell (ankle), Ebron (knee) and Ngata (calf) did not practice Friday.
