The NBA season continues on Monday with a very special round of games on Martin Luther King Day, and the final matchup of what will be a very busy day of basketball is perhaps the most exciting as the two-time defending champions Golden State Warriors face the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center.

Warriors (-12.5) at Lakers 10:30 PM ET on TNT

Venue: Staples Center, Los Angeles

This will be the second straight game at Staples for the Warriors, who dominated the Clippers on Friday night and won 112-94 thanks in large part to a very impressive debut from DeMarcus Cousins, almost a year to the date after suffering a torn Achilles injury. Boogie looked sharp and comfortable in Golden State’s system, finishing with 14 points (3-of-4 from three-point range) and 6 rebounds in just 15 minutes. He did foul out early in the fourth quarter, but that didn’t take anything away from what was an excellent first impression.

The Lakers were ready to come into this one with a lot of momentum thanks to a fantastic start to their Saturday night game against the Houston Rockets on the road. Los Angeles had a 21-point lead early in the third quarter, but as soon as Lonzo Ball suffered an ankle injury things changed. James Harden took over, finished with 48 points and led the Rockets to an improbable 138-134 win in overtime.

Now LA will have to face the champions – likely without Ball, who was finally turning around a recent slump. LeBron James will not play this one as well as he recovers from a groin injury so the scoring load will fall on the shoulders of Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma. Because of the circumstances, the Warriors are overwhelming favorites to win, but these young Lakers are unpredictable and could very well pull off an upset for the ages on MLK Day.
