FOOTBALL: A&M coaches, including Fisher, pay Memorial, PNG visit

Published 8:20 pm Thursday, January 18, 2018

Thursday could be tabbed as Aggie day in Port Arthur and Port Neches.

Recently hired Texas A&M head football coach Jimbo Fisher visited Port Neches-Groves during the school day, while A&M offensive line coach Jim Turner paid a visit to PA Memorial. While NCAA rules prohibit coaches from commenting on a recruit until he is signed, Turner apparently took a look at Memorial linebacker Jomard Valsin, who is a forward on the basketball team.

Fisher, who coached Florida State for the past eight seasons and won a national championship in 2013, took a picture with PNG principal Scott Ryan in the school’s weight room that was posted on Twitter. PNG quarterback Roschon Johnson, who is a junior this school year, is verbally committed to the University of Texas.

The first-ever early signing period for college football prospects was Dec. 20-22. No player from Mid- or South County signed with a school at the time.

The traditional National Signing Day is Feb. 7.
