Brookline Pool Will Not Open On Time Due To Failed Inspection

BROOKLINE (KDKA) -- The pool at Moore Park in Brookline isn't opening soon because it failed its inspection.

The pool can't open until repairs are made to the electrical system. Families who live nearby are disappointed, but the city has alternate plans for them to enjoy some time in the water.

Visitors to Moore Park in Brookline can play tennis, basketball and enjoy some time on the swingset, but they won't be able to take a dip in the pool anytime soon. The gates to the pool are locked, because it failed a routine inspection. The electrical system has to be redesigned and rebuilt.

"My kids will be very disappointed," said Valerie Rew who lives across the street from Moore Park. Rew takes her three daughters to the park almost every day in the summer. She's disappointed they won't be able to swim there until the repairs are made.

"They took swimming lessons at the pool, so that's disappointing too," said Rew.

"It's a nice pool," said Dennis Rew, "very clean usually, a lot of families, young kids, so it doesn't get too rowdy."

Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak, who's district includes Brookline- where Moore Park is located, has teamed up with CitiParks to offer shuttle service for residents near Moore Park to go to other pools in the city, until the Moore pool is open.

"We probably wouldn't take advantage of that," said Dennis Rew, "maybe some other families would, but I guess we'll have to find out what other pools are around."

City officials are hopeful that the pool can re-open and repairs can be completed by the end of July.
