More than 100 police and fire honor guard members from across the country participated in the Police Honor Guard Academy, a hands-on training course with instruction on organization protocol and procedures.

The week-long training culminated with a mock funeral, with participants outfitted in full honor guard uniform at the Volunteer Park Community Center in Plantation. Levitt-Weinstein donated a casket, hearse and gravesite set-up to support the cause.

The Police Honor Guard of Broward County is a not-for-profit organization that assists law enforcement agencies and the families of fallen officers.

The annual academy has offered nearly 1,000 honor guard members from across the United States the training they need to conduct flag presentations, flag folding and full honors, line of duty funerals.
