Historic city centre office building brought back to life with £500k refurbishment

A dilapidated city centre office building is being brought back to life thanks to a £500,000 makeover, which will transform the unoccupied space into Grade A offices.

26 Mosley Street, which was once the National Provincial Bank of England, has recently been acquired by HMC Ventures Ltd.

HMC Ventures has appointed Newcastle-based Silverstone Building Consultancy to project manage a major refurbishment of the three upper floors and create a loft conversion which will provide over 9,000 sq ft of open plan, high specification office space.

The specialist firm of building surveyors and project managers recently announced it is also undertaking a six-figure refurbishment of Gainsborough House on Grey Street.

Louise Stewart, associate director at Silverstone Building Consultancy said: “We are delighted to have been instructed on this fantastic project.  26 Mosley Street is a Grade II listed building which was originally constructed in 1870 and retains its attractive Georgian façade.

Once we have completed the refurbishment it will offer occupiers high quality, Grade A office space with modern facilities including; raised flooring, comfort cooling and a new passenger lift.   The refurbishment includes the conversion of the loft space to provide additional office accommodation, for which we secured the necessary listed building and planning consent.”

The historic building sits in a prominent position on the corner of Mosley Street and Dean Street in the heart of the city centre and close to Grey Street, traditionally Newcastle’s premier business address.

The ground floor, which was once famed for being Ant and Dec’s bar, The Lounge, is now occupied by Miller and Carter Steakhouse.

Ultimate Leisure has been appointed as the main contractor and Bradley Hall has been appointed to market the refurbished office space, which will be ready for occupation in March 2017.

Mark McArdle of HMC Ventures said: “We felt that this was an excellent opportunity to undertake an office refurbishment project. There is currently a lack of good quality city centre office space due to the conversion of many office buildings into other uses such as student accommodation. Thanks to its prominent, central location and the specification of the refurbishment, we are confident that 26 Mosley Street will prove to be popular when it is ready in Spring 2017’.
