Henry Co. murder suspect captured after barricading himself in Clayton Co. home

James McAllister was found at a home in Rex after a shooting in Henry County.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A man that was the subject of a homicide warrant from Henry County was apprehended in Clayton County Saturday night, according to Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill.

A BOLO was issued by Henry County Police on Saturday for James McAllister after they said he shot a victim to death. Heather Elgle was also listed on the BOLO alert as a person of interest in the case.

Hill says that detectives received information that McAllister may have been hiding at an address on Silver Maple Drive in Rex, Ga. They asked Clayton County authorities to check to see if a silver Mustang convertible that McAllister was last seen driving was as that particular address.

According to Hill, Clayton County officers were able to locate the Mustang at that address and noticed that the driver's side door of the car was slightly open. They set up surveillance on the car while notifying additional law enforcement of the situation.

The Clayton County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Squad was called out in response.

When they arrived, Hill said, they surrounded the home and called for McAllister to come out. An elderly couple exited the home and said McAllister was inside along with Elgle.

After additional calls for McAllister to exit the home yielded no results, the Clayton County SWAT team was called out. The SWAT team eventually determined that McAllister had locked himself in the basement of the home.

By 6 am Sunday, Hill said, SWAT team members fired chemical agents into the basement of the home. Both McAllister and Elgle came out of the home and were taken into custody without additional incident.
