Irina Shayk: ‘I’m too womanly to be a size zero’

Irina Shayk hates the obsession with size zero, and admits her womanly assets prevent her from fitting into a sample size outfit.

The Russian model is one of the hottest names in the fashion industry, and has walked the runway for names including Versace, Victoria’s Secret, and Max Mara.

But when it comes to her enviable physique, Irina acknowledges she’s nowhere near a size zero (U.K. size 4) – and wouldn’t want to be.

“I don’t believe in diets. I’m lucky with my genes. I never had a problem getting too skinny or too big,” she told Britain’s Glamour magazine. “I never fit size zero and when people try to squeeze me into sample size, I have said, ‘I’m sorry guys, I have my assets – like, I cannot be in this!’ I think that the designers who I work with really celebrate and appreciate a woman’s body. I have a curvy body and people want to use me in their shows, and for their brands, knowing I’m not a skinny girl.”

Despite her strong views, Irina, who shares daughter Lea with partner Bradley Cooper, revealed she’s previously been ordered to lose weight by modelling agencies. But she refused, and is proud to have done so.

“I just stick to myself, my personality and my decisions – I’m a human being as well as a model,” the 33-year-old smiled. “I love to eat, I love to enjoy my life and when I’m off duty, I’m not wearing high heels or make-up and trying to fit into a size zero dress. I’m just (a) regular person. I think it’s really important to carry that through your work and personal life. You have to think about who YOU really are and what you want.”
