As the steamy Fifty Shades of Grey trailer debuted online, stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson sat down for their first interview together on NBC’s Today show Thursday morning.
During the chat with co-host Savannah Guthrie, the co-stars revealed their chemistry, laughing and joking with each other, and talked about making the highly anticipated movie version of EL James’ popular erotic novel.

The interview got off to a disappointing start for Dornan’s fans as Guthrie said she wouldn’t ask him to do the interview shirtless despite many requests for that.
But Dornan admitted, “I could’ve done that if you’d asked me. I would’ve thought about it.”
Unfortunately for his admirers, he remained fully clothed throughout the chat and talked about the rather un-Christian Grey way he reacted to the news he was cast in the movie.

“I was in London when it all really happened and it was 2 a.m. when I was waiting for the call … I was asleep pretty soon after I found out. It wasn’t like a normal time when I could go and party and stuff. My heavily pregnant wife was downstairs sleeping, so I just sort of joined her in bed downstairs and went to sleep,” Dornan explained, admitting that getting the job was “pretty exciting.”
Still, despite the film’s many sexy scenes, Johnson repeated the old actors’ line that they’re not really that fun to shoot, calling it “more of a task,” which prompted a hurt reaction from Dornan.
The actor also joked about Beyonce’s contribution to the trailer, a slowed-down version of her hit “Crazy in Love,” calling the superstar “a good friend of ours,” before confessing that they don’t know her.

Speaking of famous friends, Johnson had some thoughts on whether she’d want her famous parents, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, to see the film.
“I think that probably no … I mean, if it were them doing the movie, I wouldn’t want to see that.”
