BIRMINGHAM, AL - There is a saying lately in Birmingham on weekends: If you can't find anything to do you obviously don't want to do anything. That is because with Birmingham's vibrant restaurant and music scenes alone, usually something interesting is afoot in the Magic City.

So for the weekend of August 17-19, what is there to do in Birmingham? Plenty, actually. Here are five suggestions for the weekend:

Birmingham Barons v. Tennessee Smokies (August 17-18), Regions Field: The Birmingham Barons are close to wrapping up their 2018 season, but there are still a few home games left at Regions Field. The Barons host the Tennessee Smokies Friday and Saturday night, beginning at 7 p.m. each night.

Kickin Chicken Wing Fest (August 18), Ghost Train Brewing Co.: Join the Junior Board of The Literacy Council of Central Alabama for the Kickin’ Chicken Wing Fest 2018, hosted by Ghost Train Brewing Company. Kickin’ Chicken Wing Fest is a chicken wing cook off benefiting The Literacy Council’s programs – adult literacy, family literacy, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and GED preparation.Your ticket includes all the tasty chicken wings you can eat, as long as they last, from our competing teams. There will be live music from from Riverbend and Camryn Grace Music, plus a Kid’s Zone so you can bring the youngsters.

Beer Bands & Bullies 2018 (August 18), Cahaba Brewing Company: Join Bama Bully Rescue for our 8th Annual Beer Bands & Bullies music festival at Cahaba Brewing Company We’ll be bringing you some of Birmingham’s best bands, raffles from some of Birmingham’s best retailers and, of course, Birmingham’s best beer.

ETC's Tenth Anniversary Show (August 17-18), Theater Downtown: Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Extemporaneous Theater Company at Theater Downtown. ETC celebrates 10 years of hilarity with a show full of the very first show’s Vulcan’s Underpants games, as well as reminiscences, behind the scenes stories, and all kinds of surprises.
