Two executives of the Pieology pizza chain brought over a dozen pizzas and met privately with Torrance police officers at a roll call Wednesday to apologize for an employee’s profane message that she typed onto a policeman’s receipt last week.

“Pieology apologized to our officers and thanked them for their service,” the department said on Facebook. “They also reaffirmed their support for all first responders by making a generous donation to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Pieology for their efforts and continued support of law enforcement.

Pieology took the action following a public relations nightmare that began Monday after an officer’s upset wife posted a photograph on social media of a receipt showing an officer’s receipt that said “F— The Cops.” The photo drew hundreds of angry responses.

The officer received the receipt Sept. 14 when he stopped for lunch at the chain’s Pacific Coast Highway restaurant. The officer made no deal of it, but when it became public, Pieology fired the employee and expressed support for police.

Torrance police considered the matter over.
