‘Prairie’ actress Melissa Gilbert wants her DTE

The Detroit News

So you’d think she’d be used to roughing it on the prairie.

Melissa Gilbert

Apparently those days are over and on Wednesday, actress Melissa Gilbert joined the ranks of 800,000 plus others who were left in the dark after high winds swept the region.

So you could forgive Gilbert of Howell, best known for “Little House on the Prairie” for nine seasons, when she began reaching out to DTE on Wednesday. It was, after all, the second-biggest power outage in the utility’s history and who knew when it would end.

“Hi there @ DTE_Energy I’ve reported our outage via your app but I’m wondering if you have an update,” she started politely.

DTE, equally courteous, gave her the low-down: “Our 1st priority is to address public safety issues. Crews will be assessing damage/giving estimates when conditions improve.”

“Just FYI-,” she came back, “our place is a bit off the grid and last time we had an outage it took days for you to find us.” She added, for good measure: “Thanks again for all your hard work.”

But there was more. She wanted DTE to know she had a generator “but a lot (of) gas stations are shut down without power.”

is an American western drama television series, starring Michael Landon, Melissa Gilbert, and Karen Grassle, about a family living on a farm in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, in the 1870s and 1880s.

Darn. What would Pa do?
