Lyche Ties For Second At Forest Oaks Golf Classic

FINAL RESULTS

WILMINGTON, North Carolina –  Annette Lyche fired a sizzling 5-under-par 67 on Tuesday to tie for second individually while the UNCW women's golf team closed at fifth place overall in UNC Greensboro's Forest Oaks Fall Classic.

Lyche opened the final round tied for 13th place, but carded six birdies, 11 pars and one bogey for her career low and move into a tie with James Madison's Shabril Brewer for the runner-up spot on the individual leaderboard behind Mercer's Katy Harris. Lyche's three-round total was a 1-over 73-77-67=217, two shots behind Harris at 70-72-73=215, on the 6,267 layout at Forest Oaks Country Club.

UNCW fashioned a 301 total on the last round to wind up in fifth place in the team standings with a 298-311=301=910 card, trailing only champion Elon (298-301-300=899), Rollins (308-300-297=905), Jacksonville (304-309-295=908) and Maryland (305-303-301=909).

"I was really pleased and proud of the team throughout the entire tournament," said Cindy Ho, UNCW's head coach. "We struggled with our start today and that put us in a hole right away, but I was proud of how our players stayed focused and did not let that bother them.

"We battled, battled and battled throughout the day. We kept going up and down in the standings. We rode a very hot Annette (Lyche) and her score helped tremendously. It thought we hit the ball better than we scored. We gave ourselves a chance today and did a lot of fantastic things throughout the tournament."

Lyche, a junior transfer from Baylor, was UNCW's top finisher for the second time in as many appearances this fall after taking third in the William & Mary Invitational. Fellow junior Meghan Theiss narrowly missed a top-10 finish with a 70-75-79=224, tying for 11th place in the 96-player field.

"I was really proud of Annette," said Ho. "She had six birdies and a three-putt for her only bogey on No. 15. "
