The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel looks to be shaping up nicely, as Blade Runner 2049 star Sylvia Hoeks has reportedly been added to the cast.

According to Variety, Hoeks is in talks to join The Girl in the Spider's Web as main character Lisbeth Salander's evil twin.

The Dutch actress, who plays villainous replicant Luv in Blade Runner 2049, would star opposite The Crown's Claire Foy as Lisbeth.

There has been no comment from Sony Pictures on the reported casting.

Although details on the film's cast are scarce, it has already been announced that it will be directed by Fede Alvarez, who oversaw 2016 horror Don't Breathe.

Speaking of Claire Foy's casting last month, Alvarez said he was thrilled with the choice.

"Claire is an incredible, rare talent who will inject a new and exciting life into Lisbeth," he said. "I can't wait to bring this new story to a worldwide audience, with Claire Foy at its centre."

The Girl in the Spider's Web will be adapted for the screen by Steven Knight, with the script based on David Lagercrantz's 2015 bestseller, which marked the series' first novel not to be written by Stieg Larsson, who died in 2004.

The film will serve as a sequel to 2011's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – itself a remake of the Swedish-language version starring Noomi Rapace — which featured Rooney Mara as Lisbeth.

Filming is set to begin in January, with the movie due for release in October 2018.

Hoeks is also lined up to play Leigh in All the Devil's Men alongside William Fichtner, which is about a bounty hunter forced to travel to London on a manhunt for a CIA operative.
