Atmakur (Kurnool): Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Supraja launched an unprecedented initiative to prevent accidents on the national highway 340 which claimed several lives during the last few years.

Supraja told The Hans India that as many as 30 dangerous curves have been identified on the 60-km stretch of the road in the Nallamala forest of Atmakur Sub-Division. These accident zones, which have claimed a number of lives during the last decade, are named black spots, she said.

The DSP said that life-size flexi cutouts of traffic constables have been made with iron sheets and they would be placed strategically at the black spots. During the experimental stage, it was found that the drivers reduced the speed after noticing the traffic police cutouts believing that the police are actually standing there, the DSP said.

She said that in first phase, the life-size cutouts would be installed in the limits of police stations of Atmakur, Midaturu and Pamulapadu. The DSP is confident that the experiment would give positive results in curbing accidents on the national highway. She took the experimenting initiative by spending money from her pocket.
